The Art Gallery of South Australia is offering you the rare opportunity to view the paintings of one of Britain’s most iconic artists, J.M.W. Turner (1775 – 1851) from the 8th of February to the 19th of May 2013 as part of Turner from the Tate.

This is a landmark international art event for Australia and the most ambitious exhibition ever undertaken by the Art Gallery of South Australia. The exhibition celebrates the artistic development of one of Britain’s most acclaimed artists through a survey of some of his most celebrated oil painting. sketchbooks and watercolours, as well as many works never before seen in Australia.

The contents of Turner’s former studio, in addition to his other artworks, now from the Turner Bequest collection which consists of approximately 30,000 works of art on paper. This includes oil paintings, drawings and watercolours with both completed and unfinished pieces of art. Selected items from this extensive collection will make up the South Australian Art Gallery’s Turner from the Tate: The Making of a Master exhibition.
