Credit Union Christmas Pageant

For many years the Adelaide Christmas Pageant has marked the beginning of the Festive Season for local South Australian residents.

In 1896, Mr Edward Waterfield Hayward – the then owner of John Martin & Company Limited, established the ‘Magic Cave’. It was a Christmas fantasy world, to support children’s cultural heritage and provide a joyful community Christmas experience. Thirsty-seven years after the creation of the ‘Magic Cave’, the very first Christmas Pageant was held during the Great Depression in 1933 as a journey of Father Christmas to the Magic Cave.

This year, the pageant will take place on Saturday 12 November 2016 from 9.30 am.

Over 172 bright and colourful sets, including floats, bands, dancers and clowns will entertain thousands of people, culminating in the arrival of Father Christmas himself in Adelaide.

The Pageant begins on South Terrace at the corner of King William Street, and meanders through the city to finish on North Terrace at approximately 11:40am.

At the end of the Credit Union Christmas Pageant until Christmas Eve, Father Christmas will take up residence at the Magic Cave at David Jones.
