2015 Adelaide Chinatown Lunar New Year Street Party
The official 1st day of Lunar New Year falls on 19th February 2015, and Chinatown Adelaide is holding the street party to celebrate year of the Goat (Sheep).
Chinatown Adelaide SA Inc. will hold the event on Saturday 21st February 2015 for all to visit, experience and enjoy the atmosphere.
This year’s Lunar New Year celebration will be the biggest that Adelaide has ever held and it is expected that over 20,000 people from all over South Australia and beyond will attend the Street Party.
Moonta Street, Gouger Street and several lane ways in the surrounding precinct will be filled with stalls, exhibitions, and entertainments from various cultural groups which showcases Asian cultures and traditions of foods, arts and crafts. People can experience activities such as Kung Fu demonstrations, firecrackers, lion dances, lanterns and both traditional and contemporary Chinese performances during the event. Stalls will highlight 5000 years of Chinese culture including Chinese calligraphy and painting, but also they will offer the tastes of Asian and Australian food and wine.
The highlight of the evening will be an open-air Gala Dinner which will be held on Gouger Street. The dinner banquet will promote and celebrate food and culture which represents a few thousand years of Chinese history and heritage. Also people can enjoy for the performances from talented multicultural singers, dancers and musicians from South Australia during the evening on the stage located just under the magnificent Southern Moonta Street Chinese Gateway.
