Perfect Day in Adelaide
Our in the know concierge team have worked together to make recommendations on what a perfect day in Adelaide might look like.
Start your day with a relaxing walk along the banks of the River Torrens, heading back to King William Street. Then take a tram from the Rundle Mall or a short walk to the Adelaide Central Markets. Operating since 1869 and boasting over 80 stalls, the Central Markets are a fresh fruit and produce market open from Tuesday till Saturday with late night trading on Fridays. Vibrant with sounds, colours and wonderful aromas, the market is truly the heart and soul of Adelaide. Stop by at Lucia’s, an institution in itself for breakfast and home-made Italian cooking. After breakfast, pass by the Antique Market on Grote Street on your way to the Rundle Mall, which has over 700 retail stores and is the main shopping precinct in the city. Whilst in Rundle Mall, be sure to visit the Adelaide Arcade for its architectural brilliance and various specialty stores, gifts and souvenirs.
Your Perfect afternoon
Next, take a stroll down the cultural boulevard of North Terrace with its wonderful architecture and see numerous attractions from the Parliament House and the Government house to the War Memorial, and the State Library. Continuing on, you will find the South Australian Museum with one of the best collections of Australian Aboriginal arts and artefacts. Next door is the magnificent Art Gallery of South Australia which showcases the best display of Australian colonial art in the country as well as fine European and Asian collections. The European collection in Melrose Wing spans the Renaissance to today, and the Asian collection covers twelve countries with galleries dedicated to the art of South-east Asia, India, Japan and the only dedicated Islamic gallery space in Australia. For lunch, Art Gallery Food and Wine is an excellent place to nourish the body with fresh seasonal produce. Now, continue East and you will find Adelaide’s East End. Rundle Street, located between Frome Street and East Terrace is great place to spend late afternoon and early evening and this precinct is a hub of local café scene with many boutiques and local treasures. Around the corner in Ebenezer Place is a mix of small and quirky collection of shops and cafes, including Studio Eco, the only environmentally sustainable jewellery store in Southern Hemisphere.
